Euchre uses a special deck of 24 standard playing cards. The game involves two teams with two players each.

When a player names a suit as trump, they commit their team to winning most of the tricks in that round. Scoring one point for winning three or four tricks and two points for taking all five is standard. Failing to secure three tricks is called being "euchred," which awards the opposing team two points.

A player holding a particularly strong hand may choose to "go alone." In this case, they attempt to win all tricks without their partner's help. The sitting-out partner doesn't play, and a successful solo march wins the team four points. Winning only three or four tricks while alone scores a single point. Getting euchred while playing alone still gives the opponents two points.

A key rule in Euchre is that you are never forced to play a trump card unless it matches the led suit; however, you must follow the suit that was led if you can.
