Application Description The Hang, a captivating musical instrument classified as an idiophone, hails from Switzerland. Crafted with precision, it features two half-shells made from deep-drawn, nitrided steel sheets, which are meticulously glued together at the rim. This construction results in a hollow interior and a unique 'UFO shape' that is instantly recognizable. On the top side, known as the "Ding," a central 'note' is hammered into place, surrounded by seven or eight 'tone fields' that are also hammered in. The bottom side, referred to as the "Gu," is a smooth surface with a central rolled hole that produces a tuned note when struck at the rim. This instrument is also commonly known as a handpan.
Operating on similar principles to the steelpan, the Hang functions as a Helmholtz resonator. Its development is the culmination of extensive research into the steelpan and other musical instruments, showcasing a blend of innovation and tradition.
