Application Description
Preparation for Children Going to the Hospital
"HC And - When Mother or Father Has Cancer" is a collaborative effort between the Oncology Department R, H.C. Andersen Children and Youth Hospital, Odense University Hospital, and the children and families who have experienced hospitalization. This project was also developed with 10:30 Visual Communication to provide essential support and information.
Purpose and Target Audience
Designed specifically for children aged 4-7, "HC And" serves as a crucial tool to prepare and alleviate anxiety in young children who are unfamiliar with hospital terminology. This resource introduces young children, their families, and friends to the general cancer patient journey in a hospital setting.
Format and Learning Approach
The information is delivered through a child's voice and engaging animations, falling into the educational genre of "Learning through Play" accessible via tablet, mobile phone, or touch screen. This approach aligns with how children in this age group best learn and process information—through play and tangible, concrete content. Recognizing that children can quickly become overwhelmed with information, especially as relatives of cancer patients, "HC And" is structured into short, manageable sequences tailored to a child's perspective.
Content Overview
The resource includes seven staged stories that address key questions about cancer, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. These stories are designed to be used by hospital staff as an educational tool, fostering a shared understanding between the staff and the child.
Accessibility
"HC And" is available for free download to anyone who needs it, ensuring that this valuable resource is accessible to all families facing similar challenges.
