Phil Spencer Reaffirms Support for Switch 2, Praises Nintendo Partnership

Following the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that the partnership between Nintendo and Xbox will continue to flourish. Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, recently reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Switch platform, emphasizing its role in reaching audiences beyond Xbox and PC.

In an interview with Variety, Spencer was questioned about potential projects for the Nintendo Switch 2. He responded by highlighting the successful collaboration on the original Switch and expressed enthusiasm for extending this support to the Switch 2.

"Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox," Spencer stated. "It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games."

Spencer has been a vocal supporter of the Nintendo Switch 2 since its initial teaser, praising Nintendo's innovative approach. He confirmed Xbox's strategy to expand its game offerings across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles.

When asked by Variety if the Switch 2 reveal made him eager to announce Xbox's next console plans, Spencer remained focused on Xbox's current strategy.

"No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building," Spencer explained. "I get inspired by what a lot of different creators do and other platform holders. But I believe in the plans that we have."

He reiterated Xbox's commitment to delivering games across various platforms, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already made their way to Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see what Xbox brings to the Switch 2 once it launches.
