Larian Studios has officially announced that the much-anticipated Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 will be launched on Tuesday, April 15. After being available in stress test form for a while, this update is now ready for all players to enjoy next week. With Patch 8, Baldur's Gate 3, the record-breaking Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, introduces a massive amount of new content. This includes 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and split-screen support for Xbox Series S. For a detailed look at what's coming, be sure to check out the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 patch notes.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 new subclasses:
---------------------------------------
Bard - College of Glamour
As a College of Glamour Bard, you'll wield the power to both heal allies and command enemies. With Mantle of Inspiration, you can grant your allies 5 temporary hit points, and if an enemy attacks while this spell is active, they'll be Charmed. This sets the stage for Mantle of Majesty, allowing you to command Charmed enemies to flee, approach, freeze, drop to the ground, or even relinquish their weapon.
Barbarian - Path of Giants
Choosing the Path of Giants grants you the strength of a giant, enabling you to throw both friends and foes with ease. The Giant’s Rage passive not only increases your size but also boosts your strength, enhancing the damage dealt with Throw attacks. Additionally, enjoy an increased carry capacity, making those heavy pockets a thing of the past.
Cleric - Death Domain
Embrace the dark arts as a Death Domain Cleric, gaining access to spells focused on necrotic damage and three new necromancy cantrips. With Toll The Dead, your cleric can deal 1-8 damage with a bell toll that scales up if the target is already injured. Plus, a new homebrewed ability lets you explode nearby corpses, damaging foes around them.
Druid - Circle of Stars
The Circle of Stars Druids harness celestial power beyond traditional wildshapes. You can adopt one of three Starry Forms—the Archer, Chalice, and Dragon—each tailored to different play styles. The Archer deals radiant damage with astral arrows, the Chalice restores hitpoints to you and nearby allies, while the Dragon enhances your constitution rolls and damage output, adding both aesthetics and strategic depth to your gameplay.
Paladin - Oath of the Crown
Sworn to uphold the law, Oath of the Crown Paladins are equipped to support their allies and disrupt enemies. Use Righteous Clarity to guide your companions, taunt enemies with strategic interrupts, and leverage Divine Allegiance to absorb damage while healing your party.
Fighter - Arcane Archer
The Arcane Archer combines magic and marksmanship, introducing unique skills and new shooting animations. You can banish foes to the Feywild for a turn or unleash Psychic damage, forcing enemies to make a Wisdom saving throw or be blinded until their next turn.
Monk - Drunken Master
As a Drunken Master Monk, you can consume alcohol from your inventory or around the Sword Coast to recover Ki. Share a bottle with your enemies via Intoxicating Strike to boost your Armour Class and hit chance against drunk targets. Additionally, use Sobering Realisation to sober up your foes while dealing physical and Psychic damage.
Ranger - Swarmkeeper
The Swarmkeeper subclass allows Rangers to control deadly swarms in combat. Choose from the Cloud of Jellyfish for extra lightning damage, The Flurry of Moths for Psychic damage and potential blindness, or the Legion of Bees for piercing damage and knockback. Each swarm also grants teleportation capabilities.
Rogue - Swashbuckler
Embrace the piratical life with the Swashbuckler Rogue. Use actions like tossing sand to Blind enemies, flicking your weapon to Disarm them, or utilize Fancy Footwork to prevent opportunity attacks after meleeing an enemy during your turn.
Sorcerer - Shadow Magic
Shadow Magic Sorcerers thrive in darkness, equipped with Superior Darkvision and the ability to Shadow Walk between dim light or darkness. Summon the Hound of Ill Omen to harass foes and use Strength of the Grave to stay in the fight, perfect for those tackling Honour Mode runs.
Warlock - Hexblade
Hexblade Warlocks forge pacts with Shadowfell entities, manifesting magical weapons. Curse enemies and raise their spirits from corpses for ten turns, dealing necrotic damage and healing yourself by siphoning their souls.
Wizard - Bladesinging
The Bladesinging subclass blends swordplay with wizardry, introducing new spellcasting animations and a Bladesong ability that boosts speed, agility, focus, and Constitution saving throws.

18 ImagesPatch 8 marks the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, concluding an exceptional period for Larian Studios. The game launched to critical acclaim and massive commercial success in 2023, continuing to sell well into 2024 and 2025.
In a surprising move, Larian announced its departure from Baldur’s Gate 3 and the Dungeons & Dragons universe to focus on a new, undisclosed project, after hinting at it in various teasers. Meanwhile, Hasbro, the owner of D&D, has expressed interest in continuing the series. Speaking at the Game Developers Conference, Dan Ayoub, SVP of digital games at Hasbro, mentioned that with Larian moving on, there is significant interest in Baldur's Gate. "We're kind of working out our plans for the future and what we're going to be doing with that. And actually, in pretty short order, we're going to have some stuff to talk about around that," Ayoub stated, without specifying whether this would involve a new Baldur's Gate game or a crossover similar to past collaborations with Magic: The Gathering. He expressed a desire for a Baldur's Gate 4 but acknowledged that its development would be a long-term project.
"It's somewhat of an unenviable position," Ayoub remarked. "I mean, we're not in a hurry. Right? That's the thing, we're going to take a very measured approach... We've got a lot of plans, a lot of different ways to go about it. We're starting to think about, okay, yeah, we're ready to start dipping toes a little bit and talking about a few things. And I think, in really short order, like I said, again, not to over-tease that point, we're going to have some other things to talk about around that."
Larian will celebrate the release of Patch 8 with a Twitch livestream, where senior systems designer Ross Stephens will detail the changes and additions introduced with the update.
