Bandai Namco has announced the shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, which is a poignant irony as the legendary icon celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. Launched over a decade ago, this version of the game has been a staple for mobile gamers.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final day. Many fans have expressed their disappointment with the decision to shut down the game completely rather than offering an offline version, which could have still generated revenue for Bandai Namco.
This iteration of PAC-MAN, previously known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, went beyond the classic arcade experience. It included the iconic 8-bit arcade mode alongside a Story Mode with numerous original mazes to navigate. Additionally, the game featured an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. The Tournament Mode offered weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels, and there were numerous skins available for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.
The Reason
The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile likely stems from the game's ongoing issues. Over the years, bugs and technical problems have accumulated, diminishing the overall experience. The early days of its Android launch saw enthusiastic players competing for high scores and climbing leaderboards, which was quite enjoyable at the time.
If you're looking to play PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can still download it from the Google Play Store.
