Marvel and DC Heroes Unite in Epic Crossover Event

Jan 14,2026 Author: Claire

The rivalry between Marvel and DC is legendary, yet the two companies are setting aside their differences long enough to release their first crossover comics since 2003's JLA/Avengers. Who better to usher in this new era of collaboration than Batman and Deadpool?

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and DC are joining forces for a pair of one-shot specials starring the Dark Knight and the Merc With a Mouth. Marvel will publish Deadpool/Batman #1, written by Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) with art by Greg Capullo (Batman). DC will release Batman/Deadpool #1, written by Grant Morrison (Batman) and illustrated by Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest). Each comic will also feature backup stories that bring together other heroes from the Marvel and DC Universes.

This collaboration marks the first official Marvel/DC crossover in over two decades (unless you count Fortnite's Omniverse). Previously, the two publishers had a rich history of joint crossover projects, starting with 1976’s Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.

"These crossovers tend to occur about once in every generation of readers—I’ll let you draw your own conclusions as to why," says DC’s President, Chief Creative Officer, and Publisher Jim Lee. "The timing needs to be just right—you don’t want these events to happen too often. They should feel special. Finding that perfect moment for both companies to collaborate is complex. There are layers of coordination, approvals, and joint decision-making. On the business side, revenue is shared, but the creative story has to live up to the excitement."

Regarding why Batman and Deadpool, among all characters, were chosen to launch this event, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley explains it was a fitting, quirky pairing.

"It just felt like a fun combo—no more complicated than that," Buckley says. "Imagine Deadpool hanging out with Batman. There’s plenty of humor, a lot of entertainment, and maybe just the right touch of over-the-top action. Our main goal is to deliver something exciting that showcases the best of comics, draws in new readers, and re-engages those who might have drifted away."
