Dune: Awakening’s developers at Funcom are gearing up for a potentially crowded launch as they prepare for the large-scale beta this weekend. Dive in to discover Funcom's server strategies for the launch and what fans can anticipate from this exciting new game.
Dune: Awakening Pre-Launch Updates
Funcom’s Servers Are Prepared

As the release date for Dune: Awakening approaches, Funcom is reassuring fans that they are ready for a possibly crowded launch in June. In a detailed Steam post dated May 7, the studio addressed key concerns about server capacity following the first closed beta and delved into the game's server and multiplayer mechanics.
Upon starting the game, players will select a server as their home base within a World, which comprises at least 20 servers. This setup allows players to interact with others across different servers within the same World.
However, there have been worries about server load and queues. Funcom anticipates a significant influx of players at launch, with some servers potentially reaching maximum capacity. They've promised "thousands of servers grouped together in hundreds of Worlds available at launch" to accommodate the rush.

Funcom elaborated, "While a Hagga Basin server can support 40 players at once, daily population fluctuations mean it can handle several hundred choosing it as their home server." They emphasized that extensive testing during the closed beta has equipped them with systems to limit character creation on overly popular servers, reducing the likelihood of servers becoming full.
Dune: Awakening emphasizes large-scale multiplayer, yet it remains enjoyable for solo players. While joining a multiplayer world, players can still explore Arrakis alone. Single-player and private servers, however, won't be available at launch but are planned for future updates.
What To Expect During The Large-Scale Beta Weekend

Before the official launch, the large-scale beta weekend is set to give fans a taste of what's to come. On May 8, Funcom shared insights on the upcoming beta in a post on the Dune: Awakening official website.
To participate in the beta weekend, fans can wishlist and request access on the game's Steam page, sign up on the official website, or obtain an access code at the Global LAN party on May 10.
The large-scale beta weekend will take place from May 9 to May 12. Below is a schedule to help you find out when the stream starts in your region:

The beta will feature the first 20-25 hours of gameplay, covering early to mid-game content. Players can explore the CHOAM building set, the Hagga Basin South region, Eastern and Western Vermillius Gap Region, ride the Sandbike, engage in early and mid-game combat, and experience parts of Act I of the story. Funcom has made it clear that any progress made during the beta weekend will not carry over to the final game.
