Mister Fantastic Joins Marvel Rivals: Gameplay Guide

Marvel Rivals: A Deep Dive into Mister Fantastic's Abilities and Gameplay

Marvel Rivals delivers an exceptional hero-shooter experience, boasting diverse gameplay and stunning visuals. As the game evolves, new characters enrich the roster, and Season 1 introduces iconic Fantastic Four heroes, including Mister Fantastic.

Mister Fantastic, a formidable duelist, excels at rapid movement and significant damage contribution. His unique ability to grapple and pull himself towards allies or enemies is central to his gameplay. His introduction significantly impacts the game's meta, altering strategic approaches across various maps.

Mister Fantastic's Primary Attack

A successful duelist requires a potent primary attack. Mister Fantastic's Stretch Punch, a three-hit combo (two single-fist strikes followed by a two-handed strike), offers surprising versatility. The stretched arm continues to deal damage as it's dragged through targets, impacting multiple enemies with area-of-effect damage. This compares favorably to other heroes with multi-target primary attacks, such as Storm's Wind Blade.

Mister Fantastic's Abilities

Mister Fantastic possesses a range of abilities (best explored in the training room), each contributing to a damage-boosting passive. A fully charged passive significantly enhances his offensive capabilities. Key stats to monitor include his health and Elasticity.

He starts with 350 health but utilizes shields for enhanced survivability, exceeding expectations for a duelist. Elasticity (displayed under the crosshair) increases with each basic attack (+5 per attack), reaching 100 for maximum passive effect. He has a 3-star difficulty rating; challenging for beginners but easily mastered by experienced players.

Reflexive Rubber

  • Active Ability
  • 12-second duration

Mister Fantastic transforms into a rectangular shape, absorbing incoming damage. Upon expiration, he unleashes the absorbed damage in a targeted attack.

Flexible Elongation

  • Active Ability
  • 3-second duration
  • Generates 30 Elasticity

This ability provides a shield (boosting health from 350 to 425), pulling Mister Fantastic towards a target. It deals damage to enemies or grants a shield to allies, offering strategic flexibility in offensive and defensive scenarios. It has two charges.

Distended Grip

  • Active Ability
  • 6-second duration
  • Generates 30 Elasticity

This versatile ability allows Mister Fantastic to grapple a target, offering three options: Dash (pulling him to the target without a shield), Impact (pulling the grappled enemy towards him, dealing damage), or a secondary grapple on a nearby enemy, slamming both together for combined damage.

Wedded Harmony

  • Team-Up Ability (requires Invisible Woman)
  • 20-second duration

This ability heals Mister Fantastic for any lost health (no shield granted), improving survivability, especially when combined with Invisible Woman, a Strategist character who complements Fantastic Four team compositions.

Elastic Strength

  • Passive Ability

Each ability use builds Elasticity, increasing damage output. At maximum Elasticity, Mister Fantastic undergoes a Hulk-like transformation, gaining significantly increased damage and a substantial shield (which decays after the transformation ends). Damage inactivity causes Elasticity decay.

Brainiac Bounce

  • Ultimate Ability

Mister Fantastic leaps and crashes down, dealing area-of-effect damage, then bounces to repeat the attack multiple times. This is devastating against clustered enemies.

Tips for Playing Mister Fantastic

Mister Fantastic's damage mitigation, shield access, and powerful passive make him surprisingly tanky.

Flexible Reflection

Combining Flexible Elongation and Reflexive Rubber provides shields for both Mister Fantastic and an ally, allowing for immediate damage absorption and subsequent unleashing of stored damage, overwhelming opponents.

Rushing Reflexive Rubber

While Reflexive Rubber contributes to Elastic Strength, using it strategically even without needing the passive allows for more frequent use of his inflated, high-damage state, maximizing both objective presence and team damage output. Stacking shields from Flexible Elongation before inflating can boost his health pool to a remarkable 950.
