Recent reports reveal that Outriders 2 was among the projects axed by developer People Can Fly.
The Polish studio, famous for Outriders and Gears of War Judgment, had previously confirmed broader job uncertainties in early June when shelving two other projects: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.
Though CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski's statement didn't name the involved publishers, PCF's website clarified Square Enix collaborated on Gemini while Bifrost was internally funded.
These cancellations prompted internal restructuring, coming just months after April's termination of Project Dagger - a planned action-adventure jointly developed with Take-Two Interactive until their 2022 withdrawal.
Thumb Wars and Insider Gaming now report Project Gemini was actually the abandoned Outriders sequel. Development allegedly reached motion capture stages before cancellation.
Square Enix provided no comment to IGN's inquiry, while People Can Fly remains silent.
This follows December's workforce reduction of 120 employees. Current active projects include collaborations with Krafton (Project Echo), Sony (Delta), and Microsoft on Gears of War: E-Day.
IGN previously scored Outriders 7/10, praising its "thrilling sci-fi combat and loot systems" despite narrative shortcomings. PCF's latest release remains Bulletstorm VR, a refreshed take on their classic shooter for modern VR platforms.
