Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio Composer’s New Turn-Based JRPG Gets A Free Steam Demo

Mark your calendars! Guns Undarkness will launch a free demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This ambitious project brings together Shoji Meguro, the renowned composer behind Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio, alongside Ilya Kuvshinov, the character artist known for Ghost in the Shell, and rapper Lotus Juice, a prominent figure in the Persona 3 soundtrack.

Meguro, a veteran of Atlus since 1995, has crafted memorable soundtracks for numerous titles, including the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. His transition to indie development in 2021, while continuing his work with Atlus, has led to this exciting new venture, a sci-fi stealth action JRPG published by Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

Initially unveiled at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign in 2022, Guns Undarkness is poised for its demo debut. The free demo will be available during Steam Next Fest, starting February 24th, 2025, with early access to the full game launching later in the year.

Drawing inspiration from classics like Metal Gear Solid and Persona, Guns Undarkness plunges players into a 2045 dystopia teetering on the brink of collapse. As a member of a private military company, you'll embark on crucial missions alongside allies, uncovering the world's secrets in a desperate bid to save humanity.

Gameplay seamlessly blends stealth and turn-based combat. Utilize the environment to your advantage during stealth sections, remaining undetected to gain a crucial edge in subsequent battles. Engage in tactical turn-based combat, commanding your squad and strategically deploying various firearms to overcome your foes.

The demo offers approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, providing a comprehensive introduction to the controls, battle system, weapons, and early-game strategies. Guns Undarkness is scheduled for early access release on PC in Spring 2025, offering around 10 hours of gameplay. A specific release date is yet to be announced.
