If you’ve been browsing Steam, Twitch, or gaming YouTube lately, you’ve likely come across *Schedule I*. This indie drug dealer simulator has taken the gaming world by storm, becoming the top-selling game on Steam and drawing in more players than major titles like *Monster Hunter Wilds*, *GTA 5*, and *Marvel Rivals*. Its explosive popularity has been fueled by viral attention across social media platforms, propelling it to mainstream success in just a short amount of time.
What is Schedule I?
*Schedule I* launched last week and swiftly climbed the ranks to become one of the most popular games on Steam. Here’s the official description:
From small-time dope pusher to kingpin – manufacture and distribute a range of drugs throughout the grungy city of Hyland Point. Expand your empire with properties, businesses, employees, and more.
Developed and published by TVGS—better known as Tyler—the game has exceeded all expectations. Tyler recently took to Reddit to reflect on the game’s meteoric rise.
Honestly it’s amazing but pretty overwhelming. I never expected this kind of response! At the moment I’m just trying to stay focused and get patches out ASAP. Also looking forward to getting started on content updates as soon as all major bugs are patched.
Post-Launch Support and Patch Updates
To address early issues, TVGS released Post-launch Patch #4 on March 29, which tackled various employee bugs and multiplayer issues. The development team remains committed to improving the game experience for its growing player base.
A Viral Indie Success Story
*Schedule I* came out of nowhere to claim the top-selling spot on Steam, even surpassing AAA titles like *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and *inZOI*. Valve ranks its top-selling games by revenue, and despite its budget price, *Schedule I* is generating more income than many full-priced games. This speaks volumes about its sales performance and player engagement.
The game reached a peak of 414,166 concurrent players over the weekend, placing it within the top 30 most-played games ever on Steam. At the time of writing, it continues to outperform major titles like *Monster Hunter Wilds*, *GTA 5*, and *Marvel Rivals* in terms of active players.
Player Reception and Reviews
The community reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with 98% of Steam reviews being favorable. Here are some highlights from user reviews:
- "A woman came up to me and asked for weed, didn't like the price I offered, proceeded to stab me with a broken glass bottle. 10/10"
- "Love this game"
- "I was dealing drugs in an RV and it blew up"
- "Got a motel and sold some weed"
- "Created a meth empire"
- "Then hopped on the game"
- "Really great and hilarious game. Fun game loop and hilarious fun when playing with friends. I know it is in early access but I'd like the police to be a bit more active (They could search your place, look for you even after escaping, run speed greater than the players) as well as gang warfare and a larger map. Still in its current state, it's brilliant. Defo a 10/10"
What’s Next for Schedule I?
While *Schedule I* started as a meme game, its staying power is proving stronger than expected. With a passionate player base and a developer actively working on updates, the game is set for a promising future. Tyler and the TVGS team are already planning major content expansions to enrich the gameplay experience.
