Hollow Knight: Silksong, one of the most eagerly awaited sequels in recent gaming history, is finally offering fans a tangible glimpse into its world. While an official release date remains elusive, it has been confirmed that a playable version of the game will be featured at Australia’s National Museum of Screen Culture—known as ACMI—as part of its upcoming Game Worlds exhibition. This event marks a significant milestone for the title, giving players their first real hands-on experience with what promises to be a refined and expanded iteration of the game since its debut back in 2019.
Game Worlds Exhibition Details
The Game Worlds exhibit will open on September 18, 2025, and run through February 8, 2026. Alongside other iconic titles such as World of Warcraft and The Sims, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be showcased with exclusive custom builds, original design materials, concept art, and behind-the-scenes development insights. As an Australian-made indie gem, Silksong holds a special place in the exhibit and will serve as a centerpiece of the presentation.
Insights from ACMI Co-Curators
In an interview with IGN, ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement about featuring Silksong in the exhibit. They stated, “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of Game Worlds in September.”
The exhibit will not only include a playable build but also explore the intricate design elements that define the game. From sprite animation details for Hornet’s movements and attacks to the strategic depth behind the game’s toughest boss fights, the display will offer a deep dive into the artistic and technical vision behind the sequel.
No Official Release Date Yet
While the playable version at ACMI may hint at a potential launch window, no official release date has been announced by Team Cherry. However, during last month’s Switch 2 Direct, the game was confirmed to still be targeting a 2025 release. Given that the ACMI exhibit runs until early 2026, many speculate that the developers may aim for a release before or during the exhibition period.
Platforms
Hollow Knight: Silksong is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. With cross-platform availability, Team Cherry ensures that players across multiple systems can experience the next chapter in the beloved Metroidvania series.
