Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations
I've highlighted The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X, and WITCH WATCH in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll. Here are some additional standout picks from the list above that you should consider:
Devil May Cry is the latest animated video game adaptation from Netflix. With a Limp Bizkit-soundtracked trailer and a newly composed Evanescence track, it's clear the creators understand the tone they're aiming for. Netflix has had mixed results with anime or anime-style game IPs, from successes like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to less successful entries like Tekken: Bloodline and Dragon’s Dogma. However, with creator Adi Shankar's experience from Castlevania, Guardians of Justice, and Captain Laserhawk, and Studio Mir's impressive portfolio including Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, Devil May Cry promises to be a thrilling watch. Even if you're not familiar with the game, fans of anime like Trigun should enjoy Dante's mercenary adventures.
In Moonrise, the moon fights for independence in a concept that could have been a sequel to 2021's Moonfall. This original net animation (ONA) boasts blockbuster talent, including animation from WIT Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga), original character designs by manga icon Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan Seasons 2 & 3). Although details about the story are scarce, the involvement of such renowned creators suggests a special treat is in store.
Lastly, YAIBA: Samurai Legends might be less known to those outside Japan or younger audiences, but it has remained popular since its manga debut in the late 1980s. Created by Gosho Aoyama, famous for Case Closed, this samurai comedy follows Yaiba Kurogane as he battles an arch-nemesis with a magical katana and a demon army. With WIT Studio at the helm and Aoyama's direct involvement, this adaptation promises to blend the style of Detective Conan with the humor of early Dragon Ball and numerous Japanese historical references.
