Since its record-breaking release last year, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has seen an incredible surge in modding activity, with the latest breakthrough being the most impressive yet. Tom, known in the modding community as Warhammer Workshop and the mastermind behind the acclaimed Astartes Overhaul mod, has just released a groundbreaking 12-player co-op feature. The gameplay footage is nothing short of spectacular, showcasing multiple players engaging a Tyranid Trygon Prime in a battle that feels like an MMO boss fight.

Tom expressed his admiration for Saber Interactive's support to IGN, saying, "Honestly, I’m just kind of in awe of Saber’s support for the modding community. None of us expected 12-player PvE sessions to be possible this soon — but somehow, here we are. Thanks to their generosity and trust, this huge leap forward is finally here, and it completely changes what we can do."

It's important to note that the current 12-player co-op mod is still in the testing phase. While it functions well, it significantly disrupts the game's PvE balance, which is understandable given the increased number of players facing off against the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons.

With 12-player co-op now a reality, modders are already working on additional features to capitalize on this expansion. Tom shared with IGN that the team is developing various new modes, including prop hunt, PvP within operations, extensive updates for the upcoming official horde mode, and thrilling raid-style missions. These missions will feature formidable bosses and require coordinated teamwork, along with introducing entirely new mechanics.

The Space Marine 2 modding community has grown significantly, boasting around 20,000 active members in the main Discord server. Tom's enthusiasm is palpable: "As both a modder and a player, it’s hard not to be excited. Huge credit as always to the Saber team for not just making all this possible, but continuing to drop amazing content of their own too, without any of the usual predatory battle-pass nonsense we take for granted in modern titles."

This 12-player co-op mod might offer a glimpse into what we can expect from Space Marine 3. The excitement around Space Marine 2 continues to build with the upcoming horde mode, a new class, additional Operations maps, and new weapons. Saber Interactive recently detailed Patch 8, confirmed some horde mode mechanics, and revealed the setting for the new map.
