Cattle Country, a soon-to-be-released Steam game, promises a Wild West twist on the popular farming and life sim genre, drawing comparisons to Stardew Valley. While players can expect familiar farming mechanics like planting, harvesting, and building, the game's unique setting and action-packed elements set it apart.
Castle Pixel, the independent developer behind titles like Rex Rocket and Blossom Tales 2, is venturing into the farming sim genre for the first time with Cattle Country. Described as a "Cozy Cowboy Adventure Life Sim," the game blends the relaxing aspects of building a mountain home and fostering relationships with villagers with more dynamic gameplay.
What Makes Cattle Country Unique?
The game's distinct Wild West theme is a major differentiator. The reveal trailer showcases scenes of managing cattle under a campfire's glow, traveling in a horse-drawn wagon, and even engaging in old-west shootouts and bare-knuckle brawls. Mining, presented in a 2D Terraria-style format, adds another layer to the gameplay.
Despite these action-oriented elements, familiar farming activities remain: planting and protecting crops, chopping trees for building materials, and participating in festivals. These festivals, while inspired by Stardew Valley, include original touches, such as a Santa Claus visit and square dances.
While a release date is yet to be announced, Cattle Country is available for wishlisting on Steam.
