Rummy 500 (also called Persian Rummy, Pinochle Rummy, 500 Rum, or 500 Rummy) is a beloved variation of Rummy. While similar to classic Rummy, it stands out by allowing players to pick up multiple cards from the discard pile, not just the top one.

Following standard Rummy 500 rules, you earn points for cards successfully melded into sets or runs, while unmelded cards (deadwood) left in your hand when another player goes out will cost you points.

Game Rules:

• The game typically accommodates 2 to 4 players.

• It is played with a single deck that includes jokers.

• Each player starts with 7 cards.

• Your goal is to be the first player to hit the 500-point target.

• Even if multiple players reach 500 points, only the one with the highest score wins.

• Create valid sets and sequences to score. Sets consist of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank, while sequences are 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit. In Rummy 500, the score is calculated based on the point values of the cards used in these melds.

• Each turn involves drawing a card at the start and discarding one at the end.

• During your turn, you may also lay down a new meld or add to an existing one on the table, which is known as building.

• Jokers act as wild cards and can substitute for any card in a set or sequence.

• You may pick up one or more cards from the discard pile, but you must use the most recently discarded one immediately.

• If you take cards from the discard pile, you must use at least the top card to form a meld right away, or the move is not allowed.

• Face cards (K, Q, J) are worth 10 points. An Ace counts as 11 points in a meld but carries a 15-point penalty if held in hand. A Joker takes the value of the card it replaces and also adds a 15-point penalty if left unmelded.

• The game consists of multiple rounds.

• Scores from each round accumulate. The first player to reach or exceed 500 points wins.

• The game concludes when the target score is reached. In case of a tie, a playoff round determines the winner, who takes the pot.
