Phỏm Ta La - Tien Len Online is a beloved and familiar card game among Vietnamese players, enjoyed for generations across the country. Played with a standard 52-card deck, Phom challenges players to form sets of cards called phoms, while minimizing the point value of leftover (junk) cards. Key Terms in Phom / Ta La

• Phom: A valid set of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit or three cards of the same rank.
• Junk Cards: Cards that don’t belong to any phom; these are used to calculate points at the end of the round.
• Ù (Winning): When a player successfully forms three phoms with no junk cards—this guarantees an immediate win.
• Stomach (Túi/Chất): The remaining undealt cards placed face-down in the center of the table.
• Mom: A situation where a player fails to form any phom by the end of the round.
• Take the Pin (Bốc Cái): On your final turn, you discard a junk card, and another player picks it up to complete their phom.
• Send: If your discarded card can be added to the phom of the player who just picked, you may "send" it—removing it from your total score.
• Compensation (Ù Chéo): If a player takes the pin and another player subsequently wins, the one who took the pin must compensate all other players. Additional compensation applies if two players take pins in sequence.
• Re (Rerun): After playing a card, if another player uses it to complete a phom and discards again, you get an extra turn.

How to Play Phom – Basic Rules

• Players: The game is played by 2 to 4 players.
• Card Distribution: Each player receives 9 cards. The dealer or previous winner gets 10 cards.
• Remaining Cards: All unused cards go into the stomach, placed face-down in the center.
• Turn Order: Players take turns counterclockwise, starting with the person holding 10 cards.

Gameplay Steps:

1. The first player discards any card.
2. The next player can either:
   • Eat the card if it completes or contributes to a phom.
   • Draw a card from the stomach if they cannot use the discarded card.
3. After drawing or eating, the player discards one card.
4. This continues until a player declares Ù (wins), or until four rounds are completed without a winner.

End of the Game Conditions

• The game ends when a player achieves Ù, or after four full rounds if no one wins.
• In the final round, players must lay down all their phoms, attempt to send applicable cards, and discard their last card.
• Remaining junk cards are then totaled to determine scores.

Scoring Junk Cards (When No One Wins)

• Card Values:
  • A = 1 point
  • J = 11 points
  • Q = 12 points
  • K = 13 points
  • Numbered cards retain their face value.
• The player with the lowest total junk card value wins.
• In case of a tie, the player who laid down their cards first is declared the winner.
