Doom ha sido portado a tantos dispositivos inesperados (ToAsters, Fridges, lo que sea, que encontrar nuevas plataformas realmente notables parece imposible. Sin embargo, un estudiante de secundaria ha logrado lo aparentemente imposible: portar la fatalidad a un archivo PDF jugable en su navegador.

Claro, carece de algunas características como texto y sonido, pero ¿quién las necesita cuando puedes reproducir E1M1 mientras procrastinas en tus impuestos?

El usuario de GitHub y el estudiante de secundaria ADING2210, inspirado en el proyecto TETRISPDF, abordó este desafío. Aprovechar JavaScript dentro del lector PDF de un navegador, Ading2210 superó las limitaciones de seguridad del navegador a Port Doom a este formato inusual.

Las capacidades de JavaScript del PDF permitieron cálculos complejos, lo que resultó en una versión sorprendentemente jugable de Doom. Usando una cuadrícula ASCII de seis colores para sprites y gráficos, ADING2210 entregó una experiencia de juego legible, aunque lenta, (80 ms por cuadro).

Si bien no reemplazará su PS5, ver Doom ejecutándose dentro de un archivo PDF es impresionante, especialmente teniendo en cuenta su legibilidad.

El creador de Tetrispdf, Thomas Rinsma, comentó sobre Hacker News, elogiando la versión "Neater" de Ading2210 de PDF Doom.
