"Defeating and Capturing Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds: Strategies Revealed"

May 14,2025 Author: George

In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, the beasts you encounter are not only ferocious but also uniquely memorable. Among them, Rompopolo stands out as one of the most distinctive Brute Wyvern-type monsters. If you're looking to conquer this beast, here's a comprehensive guide on how to defeat and capture Rompopolo.

How to Unlock Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

You'll first encounter Rompopolo in Chapter 2 during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. Upon reaching the Oilwell Basin region, Rompopolo will make its appearance as you journey toward Azuz City. Defeating it is essential to progress further in the game.

Once you've defeated Rompopolo at least once, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can then engage in battles with it repeatedly, either by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by starting the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest from your Tent.

How to Beat and Capture Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

To prepare effectively for this battle, arm your hunter with water-element weapons, which you can obtain from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which you can farm from Uth Duna (initially, only the belt and greaves) or from Ajarakan later in the chapter.

Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like the Fire Charm I or a general defense charm like Defense Charm I. Before the fight, don't forget to grill a meal to boost your health and stamina.

Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo, a unique wyvern, boasts a set of distinctive attacks. Its bipedal form features saggy skin that inflates with gas, which it uses as ammunition for various gas-related attacks that can cause explosions. It can also inflict poison status ailments, so carrying Antidotes is crucial. Your Palico can help cleanse most ailments, though not always consistently.

Key attacks to be aware of include:

  • Arm Swipe – Rompopolo uses its clawed arms to swipe forward twice. This attack is easy to dodge due to its limited range.
  • Lunge With Arm Swipe – Rompopolo charges forward while raising both arms to perform an arcing swipe attack.
  • Tail Swing – Rompopolo swings its tail toward its target, another physical attack to watch out for.
  • Poison Stream or Swipe – Rompopolo sprays a stream of poison gas or charges forward while swinging its head and spraying poison.
  • Oil Explosion – From a distance, Rompopolo uses its tail stinger to inject gas into oil pools, causing explosions. Dodge these to avoid damage.
  • Charged Oil Explosion – Later in the fight, Rompopolo curls its tail underneath itself to pump more gas into the oil, resulting in a larger explosion. Dodging this is essential as it inflicts significant damage.

Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?

As with previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the option to either capture or kill Rompopolo near the end of the battle. To capture it, weaken the monster until your Palico indicates it looks "tired" (nearly dead). Then, use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps to ensnare it, followed by at least one Tranq Bomb to knock it out, completing the capture.

Both capturing and killing Rompopolo are viable strategies, with the primary difference being the item rewards you receive. While the exact differences are yet to be confirmed, here are the potential low-rank and high-rank drops from Rompopolo:
