Most AFK Journey characters are viable. This list prioritizes versatility, overall performance in PvE, Dream Realm, and PvP.

Lily May, a recent addition, is a must-have Wilder character, dealing significant damage and offering strong utility. She excels in PvP, PvE, and Dream Realm.
Thoran remains the top F2P tank, even alongside Phraesto. Reinier is a crucial support for both PvE and PvP.
Koko and Smokey & Meerky are essential supports for various game modes. Odie shines in Dream Realm and PvE.
Eironn, with Damien and Arden, forms a dominant Arena team.
Tasi (November 2024 addition) is a versatile Wilder crowd control character, excelling in most modes.
Harak (Hypogean/Celestial) is a powerful late-game Warrior, gaining strength with each kill.
Lyca and Vala effectively utilize the Haste stat, boosting attack frequency. Lyca provides party-wide Haste, while Vala increases her own. Lyca struggles in PvP.
Antandra is a solid alternative tank to Thoran. Viperian, excellent with Thoran and Cecia, excels in most modes except Dream Realm.
Alsa (May 2024 addition) is a strong DPS mage, particularly effective with Eironn in PvP.
Phraesto (June 2024 addition) is a durable tank but lacks damage.
Ludovic (August 2024 addition) is a powerful Graveborn healer, performing well in various team compositions and PvP.
Cecia, while still a capable Marksman, has decreased in value due to newer characters and meta shifts.
Sonja (December 2024 addition) significantly boosts the Lightborne faction, offering respectable damage and utility.
B-Tier characters fill roles adequately but are outclassed by higher-tier heroes. Invest in them only temporarily.
Valen and Brutus are strong early-game DPS choices. Granny Dahnie is a viable alternative tank.
Arden and Damien are crucial for PvP Arena compositions but less effective elsewhere.
Florabelle (April 2024 addition) is a decent secondary DPS, but requires significant investment.
Soren (May 2024 addition) performs adequately in PvP but is outmatched in other modes.
Korin's Dream Realm effectiveness has diminished.
C-Tier characters are quickly outclassed. Focus on obtaining higher-tier replacements.
Parisa, while possessing a strong AoE attack, is easily replaced.
