Android boasts some of the most powerful Nintendo DS emulation available. Numerous emulators exist, making choosing the best Android DS emulator crucial. Remember, the ideal emulator is specifically designed for DS games; separate emulators are needed for Nintendo 3DS titles (and, yes, we cover those too!).
Top Android DS Emulators:
melonDS – The Top Choice
melonDS reigns supreme. This free, open-source emulator receives consistent updates, boosting features and performance. It offers extensive customization options, including controller support, multiple themes (light and dark), adjustable resolutions balancing visuals and speed, and even built-in Action Replay support for cheating. Note: The Google Play version is unofficial; the GitHub version provides the latest features.
DraStic – Ideal for Older Devices
DraStic, a premium emulator ($4.99), delivers excellent performance despite its age. Released in 2013, it flawlessly runs most DS games on even low-powered devices. Features include enhanced 3D rendering resolution, save states, speed controls, customizable screen layouts, controller support, and Game Shark code functionality. However, it lacks multiplayer support, although this is less of an issue with most DS online services now defunct.
EmuBox – The Most Versatile Option
The free, ad-supported EmuBox offers impressive versatility. While ads can be intrusive and require an online connection, it supports ROMs from various consoles beyond the DS, including the original PlayStation and Game Boy Advance.
