Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once tantalized by the prospect of an ambitious DLC set in space, specifically on the Moon. Though the project was eventually shelved, blogger and dataminer SirMZK has unearthed intriguing leaks and files from the game's code, providing a glimpse into CD Projekt RED's grand vision for this cosmic expansion.
Hidden within the game's files are references to lunar surface maps, designated areas such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a rover model. This Moon location was envisioned to be vast, potentially spanning a quarter of Night City's size, and would have offered an open-world experience. This addition would have dramatically expanded the gameplay, transporting players from the familiar neon-lit streets to the unexplored lunar landscape.
A highlight of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, players can spot the Crystal Palace in one of the endings when V peers out of a spaceship window. Moreover, files uncovered a prototype for a zero-gravity bar associated with a cut quest named "201," which was linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Hope remains among fans that these imaginative concepts might find a new life in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, Orion, which is set to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm the revival of these ideas.
Although the Moon DLC remains a distant dream for now, the uncovered details paint a captivating picture of what could have been—a bold leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into new realms, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's iconic cyberpunk aesthetic.
