NPC Studio's *Fields of Mistria* has garnered significant praise for its meticulously crafted marriage candidates, engaging dialogue, and thoughtfully designed romance questlines. But can you actually date the romance options in *Fields of Mistria*?

As it stands, the straightforward answer is no – at least not in a traditional sense. However, after spending over 100 hours trying to win March's favor, I can confidently say that the game's current romance system is still incredibly engaging and well worth the $13.99 price on Steam.

With *Fields of Mistria's* first major update in November 2024, the heart cap was raised from four to six, and each romanceable NPC received a new heart event to celebrate relationship milestones. These events unlock at even intervals, with playable cutscenes at two, four, and six hearts. NPC Studio plans to introduce eight- and ten-heart events in future updates, though no specific dates or details have been confirmed beyond the upcoming March 2025 update, which won't include a new heart level cap or additional heart events.

While the idea of embarking on more quests around Mistria is thrilling, new players might be disappointed by the current pause in romance development. Yet, *Fields of Mistria's* romance system remains outstanding in its present form. The game's rich, realistic dialogue masterfully weaves in flirty undertones when interacting with romance options.

The existing heart events, while interpretable as platonic, are designed with enough ambiguity to allow for romantic interpretations, especially in their settings. As you progress, your romantic relationships deepen, making the romantic pacing in *Fields of Mistria* exceptionally rewarding, even without traditional dating.

New players shouldn't dismiss *Fields of Mistria* just because you can't go on dates yet. The last major update introduced the Shooting Star Festival, a summer event that lets you initiate a date-like experience with eligible NPCs, requiring four hearts with your chosen romance option. At the time of writing, you can also spend an evening watching the stars with Caldarus, although this doesn't trigger a date at the Summit location like with other romance options. This might change with the game's March 2025 update, which is set to unlock the dragon's romance questline.

For now, you might not be able to officially date NPCs in *Fields of Mistria*, but there's plenty to keep players engaged until more features are added.
