Evil Dead: The Game, the beloved asymmetric multiplayer game inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, is no longer available for purchase. The game, which launched in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, received an impressive 8/10 from IGN. In our review, we praised it as a "compelling and exhilarating" experience, albeit with some rough edges, mirroring the charm of the horror/comedy films it was based on.
Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition the following year, the title struggled to maintain player interest. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and further content development was halted. Now, three years after its debut, Evil Dead: The Game has been removed from digital storefronts by its publisher, Saber Interactive. However, existing players can continue to enjoy the game as its servers will remain online.
Saber Interactive released a statement on the game's Steam page, confirming the delisting:
We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.
The decision has sparked a wave of negative reviews on the game's Steam page, with many players mourning the game's effective demise. Despite this, Evil Dead: The Game maintains a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam. One positive review from a dedicated player with over 380 hours in-game reads, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."
Saber Interactive, known for last year's successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, continues to develop several licensed movie games. Upcoming projects include John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game, Turok: Origins, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.
