It's the day before the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, with less than 24 hours until Nintendo unveils its plans for its next-generation console. Excitement is building, and a recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing has sparked speculation about the potential controller lineup for the Switch 2.
As reported by Famiboards and echoed across Nintendo-focused platforms like GoNintendo, an FCC filing surfaced on March 31 from Nintendo. Identified under the product code "BEE-008," this filing appears to be for a new game controller. Enthusiasts are buzzing with theories that this could be the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
It's important to note that this is purely speculation, as Nintendo has not officially confirmed the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller. However, certain details in the filing suggest it might be a Pro Controller, such as the inclusion of Bluetooth and NFC capabilities.
The most intriguing aspect of this filing, if it indeed pertains to the Switch 2 Pro Controller, is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature, the addition of a headphone jack would align the Switch 2 Pro Controller with competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. This would represent a significant quality-of-life enhancement for gamers, should it be confirmed for the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Historically, Nintendo's FCC filings have offered early hints at their plans, lending some credibility to these speculations. However, without further leaks between now and tomorrow, we'll have to wait for the official announcement during the Switch 2 Direct to know for sure.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is set to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET across Nintendo's channels. Viewers can expect a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, with hopes of gaining substantial insights into its features and a potential release date.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 Direct will last for an hour. Additionally, two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 sessions featuring hands-on gameplay are scheduled for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
