The inaugural FIFAe World Cup 2024, a collaborative effort between eFootball and FIFA, has concluded, crowning champions in both console and mobile categories. Malaysia's Minbappe secured victory in the mobile division, while Indonesia dominated the console competition with the winning team of BINONGBOYS, SHNKS-ELGA, GARUDAFRANC, and akbarpaudie.
Held at the SEF Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this tournament marks the first of what's anticipated to be a recurring event. The high production values of the FIFAe World Cup 2024 are evident, reflecting Saudi Arabia's significant investment in esports, coinciding with the inaugural Esports World Cup this year.
eFootball's Ambitions
The success of the FIFAe World Cup 2024 underscores Konami and FIFA's shared ambition to establish eFootball as the premier football simulator for elite competition. However, the question remains whether this extravagant, high-profile tournament will resonate with the average gamer. The history of esports, particularly in fighting games, shows that major organizational involvement can sometimes lead to complications in top-tier gameplay. While the FIFAe World Cup currently appears smooth, potential challenges remain.
For those interested in other esports accolades, the Pocket Gamer Awards 2024 have recently concluded. Check out the results to see which games and developers were victorious!
