Fortnite Returns to Apple App Store

Fortnite has finally returned to the U.S. Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad users.

Epic Games announced and celebrated this milestone with a post on X/Twitter, notifying mobile gamers they can now access the popular battle royale game again after a five-year absence. The iOS store page mirrors its pre-2020 version, though now prominently features a new header: "Fortnite is back!"

Currently, some U.S. Apple users might encounter difficulties finding Fortnite via App Store search, though Epic assures this will resolve shortly. Users can alternatively access the restored store page directly. E.U. players can now download Fortnite through either the Epic Games Store or AltStore.

Fortnite's iOS return closes a contentious chapter between Epic and Apple. The conflict began August 2020 when both Apple and Google removed Fortnite from their stores after Epic implemented unauthorized payment options that bypassed platform fees. Epic had positioned this move as challenging what it deemed excessive commission fees.

This triggered extensive litigation that maintained Fortnite's absence from official stores, disappointing millions of mobile players. The standoff ended when Epic CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed Fortnite's May iOS return following a California federal court ruling. Though briefly delayed by additional Apple objections, Fortnite has now officially returned to iOS after half a decade.

iOS players now enjoy expanded V-Bucks purchase options - either through the Epic Games Store or traditional in-app purchases. Choosing the $22.99/2,800 V-Bucks package via Epic's store gives players $4.60 (20%) back as store credit.
