Google Streamer 4K Sees First-Ever Price Cut

Dec 07,2025 Author: Aaron

The Google Streamer 4K is receiving its first-ever discount, now available for just $79.99 on Amazon and other major retailers. It stands out as one of the top Android-based 4K streaming devices currently available, offering significant value compared to alternatives like the Apple TV, Roku Ultra, or Nvidia Shield TV Pro. With modern features like smart hub integration and Thread compatibility, it delivers performance at a much more accessible price.

Launched in September 2024, the Google Streamer 4K builds on its predecessor, the Chromecast 4K, with substantial improvements across the board. Google states the upgraded processor is up to 22% faster, paired with 2GB of memory (double the previous model) and 32GB of onboard storage (quadruple the prior version). It supports high-speed 802.11ac Wi-Fi and gigabit ethernet, and now uses a USB Type-C port for easier power adapter replacement. Should you misplace the redesigned remote, a convenient remote-finder button is located directly on the device.

As with premium streaming devices, the Google Streamer 4K supports 4K HDR playback in Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+ formats. While it includes an HDMI 2.1 port, the maximum output is 4K at 60fps. It also delivers spatial audio with Dolby Atmos when paired with compatible speakers like the Sonos Arc. Additionally, it serves as a smart home controller, functioning as both a Thread border router and Matter hub.

This device holds its own against the Apple TV and Roku Ultra, offering similar functionality at a reduced cost. While the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is cheaper, the Google Streamer's Android TV interface is cleaner and more intuitive, free of intrusive ads. The only clearly superior streaming device remains the Nvidia Shield TV Pro, priced at $200. Factor in the bonus smart home features with Matter and Thread support, and the Google Streamer 4K becomes an impressive all-around package.

What Streaming Services Should I Consider?

If you prefer to test a service before committing, several leading platforms offer free trials. Popular options include Hulu, Paramount+, Apple TV+, and Crunchyroll. By signing up for multiple trials simultaneously, you can sample an extensive library of content during the trial period.

For paid subscriptions, the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle offers outstanding value at only $16.99 per month. Disney Plus, in particular, provides a rich catalog of entertainment—from timeless Disney animations to new Marvel series, Star Wars films, and beloved kids' shows like Bluey. With so much to watch, including the upcoming second season of Andor arriving on April 22, there's a plan to fit every household.
