IGN has the exciting news that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at an Australian museum starting in September 2025. This much-anticipated game from Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, has been at the top of Steam's wishlist chart for years. Although Team Cherry has only given a vague 2025 release window, fans can mark their calendars for a hands-on experience at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, beginning September 18.

Silksong will be a highlight of the Game Worlds exhibition at the Melbourne museum, which will also feature displays exploring the game's intricate design and artistic direction.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell shared their excitement, saying: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September.

"From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements from the game that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

With Silksong set to be playable at ACMI from September 18, fans are eagerly speculating about the game's release date. It's likely that the game will launch before this date, possibly as early as August.

The excitement around Hollow Knight continues to build, with Silksong making a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month. This appearance confirmed Team Cherry’s updated launch plans for 2025, marking the most significant update on Silksong in years.

Initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with Xbox (and Game Pass) and PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions to follow, Silksong has been the subject of numerous intriguing teases. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
