Hyper Light Breaker, the much-anticipated sequel to the indie hit Hyper Light Drifter, introduces significant changes to the original formula. Transitioning from 2D pixel art to a stunning 3D environment, the game maintains its visual allure while shifting from a linear RPG to a rogue-lite with extraction mechanics. A key feature of Hyper Light Breaker is its multiplayer functionality, which enhances gameplay by allowing players to team up with friends or join public sessions. This guide will walk you through the steps to play with your friends and how to engage in random online matchmaking.

How To Play Hyper Light Breaker With Friends

To dive into the co-op multiplayer experience of Hyper Light Breaker with your friends, you'll need to set up a Private multiplayer room. Begin by spawning into the Cursed Outpost, the hub zone of Hyper Light Breaker. Head towards the counter to the left of your commander, Pherus Bit, located just opposite the doorway leading into the Outpost.

Interact with the counter by pressing the Interact button (usually R1 or RB) to access the Multiplayer menu. From here, you can create your own Breaker Team, join an existing team, or review your Invitations. To play with friends, select "Create Breaker Team".

In the ensuing menu, enable "Password Required" and enter a password. Once your private Breaker Team is established, you can invite up to two friends via your platform's social service, which supports PSN, Xbox, and Steam. The game accommodates groups of up to three players.

If your friend is already in-game, they'll receive the invitation in the "Invitations" tab of the Multiplayer menu. Otherwise, they can join your session through the provided invitation link.

Your team might also appear in the general list of Breaker Teams if there's room for more players. If other methods fail, your friend can search through this list and join your Private group directly.

Once your friend accepts the invite and enters the password, you're all set for some thrilling co-op runs in Hyper Light Breaker.

Random Online Matchmaking In Hyper Light Breaker

If you're eager to play multiplayer but lack friends who own Hyper Light Breaker, the game's matchmaking system offers a solution by allowing you to join public groups. You can either create your own public group without a password or join an existing one through the matchmaking system.

From the multiplayer menu at the Cursed Outpost, select "Join Breaker Team", then scroll to the bottom and choose "Join Random Public Breaker Team". The game will scan for available public, non-password-protected Breaker Teams and assign you to one if available. After a brief loading screen, you'll find yourself in the world of the Breaker Team creator.

To end a multiplayer session, return to the counter at the Cursed Outpost and open the multiplayer menu. A new option to disconnect from the current session will appear at the bottom of the list. Selecting this will return you to your own world. Alternatively, you can simply quit the game to end the session.
