Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto hints at a possible revival of beloved original characters from Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Speaking at EVO 2024, Matsumoto stated that the upcoming "Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics" presents a unique opportunity. The collection, featuring six classic titles including Marvel vs. Capcom 2, will reintroduce these characters – Amingo, Ruby Heart, and SonSon – to a new generation of players.

Matsumoto emphasized that the characters' return in a future title is "always a possibility." He suggested that positive fan reception following the collection's release could lead to appearances in games like Street Fighter 6 or other fighting game titles outside the Versus series. The renewed interest generated by the re-release, he argued, would expand the creative possibilities for Capcom, providing a richer pool of content for future projects.

The "Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection" itself has been a long-time goal for Capcom, with discussions with Marvel spanning several years. Matsumoto highlighted the challenges in securing the necessary licenses and aligning schedules, ultimately resulting in the collection's imminent release.

Beyond this collection, Capcom aims to develop a new Versus series entry and potentially revive other legacy fighting games currently unavailable on modern platforms or lacking rollback netcode. Matsumoto underscored Capcom's commitment to re-releasing classic titles, acknowledging the collaborative efforts and time required to bring these projects to fruition. He concluded by stating that re-releasing these classics is the best way to energize the community and gauge interest in future projects.
