Veteran actor Michael Douglas, renowned for his role as the shrinking scientist Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has announced that he is likely finished with the franchise. Douglas has featured in all three Ant-Man films, with his latest appearance in the critically underwhelming "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" released in 2023, in addition to a cameo in "Avengers: Endgame."
As the production of "Avengers: Doomsday" commences, fans are curious if they will see Hank Pym make one final appearance. However, Douglas has indicated that this is unlikely. In an interview with Deadline, when asked about returning for another Marvel project, he stated, "I don't think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it."
Douglas has largely retired from acting, with his recent big-screen roles confined to Marvel projects. Simultaneously, he has remained active as a producer, boasting over a dozen credits in this capacity. Reflecting on his time with Marvel, Douglas mentioned his first encounter with green screen technology, saying, "I'd never done a green screen picture before. But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time."
Previously, Douglas expressed a desire for Hank Pym's character to be killed off in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," believing it would enhance the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man and complete Pym's narrative arc. However, Marvel's decision-makers opted against this direction.

The disappointing box office results of "Quantumania" have cast doubt over the future of the Ant-Man series, though Paul Rudd is confirmed to reprise his role in "Avengers: Doomsday." As for other members of the Ant-Man family—including Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne—their return seems improbable. In June 2024, Lilly declared her intention to step away from acting to prioritize her family, making her appearance as Wasp in "Avengers: Doomsday" highly unlikely.
The contents of "Avengers: Doomsday" remain largely under wraps, but a recent leak of set footage has sparked excitement among fans, hinting at the return of a notable location from "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier."
