Monster Hunter Wilds launched with a surprisingly hefty day-one patch, weighing in at a substantial 18GB. While the patch notes remain elusive, players are urged to download this update for optimal performance.

The large file size likely stems from the inclusion of high-resolution textures, noticeably absent from review copies. This addition significantly boosts the game's visual fidelity. Given Monster Hunter Wilds' confirmed PS5 Pro enhancements, the patch may also incorporate optimizations for this enhanced console experience, further improving gameplay. Bug fixes are another likely component, addressing any remaining issues before widespread player access.
While labeled a day-one patch (version 1.000.020), pre-orders may allow early access to the download. Players with slower internet connections are advised to install it before February 28th for a smoother launch experience. Importantly, this update is primarily focused on performance and bug fixes; it's unlikely to include new content.
For those eager for new content, Monster Hunter Wilds' post-launch DLC offers three paid expansion packs. However, free content updates are also planned, with the first arriving this spring, featuring Mizutsune and event quests, followed by additional monsters and missions in the summer.
Monster Hunter Wilds releases on PC and consoles February 28th.
