Nintendo Switch 2 Game in the Works as Marvel Rivals Dev 'Open' to Release

Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

Recently, at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He offered encouraging news for Switch fans, suggesting a Switch 2 release is a strong possibility. Wu explained that NetEase is already collaborating with Nintendo, working with development kits. He stated that if the Switch 2 can deliver a high-quality gaming experience comparable to other platforms, they're prepared to bring Marvel Rivals to the console. The primary reason for excluding the original Switch was its inability to provide the necessary performance for optimal gameplay.

PlayThe Nintendo Switch 2's official announcement last month generated significant excitement. While specifics remain limited, it's expected to be a more powerful and enhanced system. Intriguingly, rumors suggest potential mouse-like controller functionality, potentially bridging the gap between console and PC shooter experiences. The exact implementation, however, is yet to be revealed.

The Nintendo Switch 2 release date is currently unannounced, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is available now on other platforms and has received positive critical reception. Our 8/10 review praised the game's strong position within the hero shooter genre, stating it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
