In Nintendo’s latest Creator’s Voice video, Final Fantasy VII Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Intergrade, an enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 title Final Fantasy VII Remake, serves as the first chapter in the trilogy reimagining the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG Final Fantasy VII. This PS5 edition improves graphics and lighting while including the Intermission DLC, spotlighting ninja Yuffie’s journey in Midgar.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is currently available on PS5 and PC. Hamaguchi noted that the Switch 2’s advanced capabilities make it possible to bring the game to Nintendo’s handheld platform. “The Switch 2’s power allows us to fully recreate Midgar’s world,” he said.
“Playing this title in handheld mode on the Switch 2 lets you enjoy it during your commute,” Hamaguchi added, emphasizing how portability fosters sharing gameplay and progress with others.
The Switch 2 release will feature GameChat, allowing players to connect with friends and share screens in real time. “I’m thrilled to see this game on a portable system,” Hamaguchi said, expressing optimism about a lasting partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy franchise.
While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is confirmed for Switch 2, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, stating, “I hope players are excited for the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2,” suggesting Rebirth and the trilogy’s final chapter may follow.
The Final Fantasy series began on Nintendo consoles before moving to PlayStation 1 for the 3D Final Fantasy VII in 1997. With this remake, the series returns to Nintendo hardware.
