Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs

May 14,2025 Author: Gabriella

Gamers were hit with a wave of disappointment last week when the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change was prompted by new import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which threw financial markets into turmoil, and the ripple effect has now crossed into Canada. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders in their region are also delayed, dashing hopes of securing a console through connections north of the border.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, to synchronize with the yet-to-be-determined pre-order schedule in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a release to the Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will share updated information in due time. The launch date remains set for June 5, 2025."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the impact of tariffs and the shifting market landscape. An update on timing will be provided later. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains firm.

With the original pre-order date looming tomorrow, there's still no clarity on when eager fans can start their pre-order attempts, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced $449.99.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already started in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out. Scalpers have jumped on the opportunity, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the official retail price of £395.99 ($506).
