Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) offers a rich suite of services, including access to iconic games from past console generations and expansions for some of its flagship titles. If you're browsing the Nintendo Store for new Switch games, subscribing to the right NSO plan can unlock a wealth of additional content and features.
With the confirmation that NSO will transition to the Nintendo Switch 2, subscribers can look forward to enjoying the same benefits, including extensive retro game libraries, on the new console. When choosing between the two available plans, consider your gaming needs and the specific advantages each plan offers. Whether you're eager to dive into classics like Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 or enjoy online multiplayer with friends in Mario Kart, understanding the full range of NSO membership options will help you make an informed decision.

### Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo provides two main Nintendo Switch Online membership plans: Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Both are available in individual and family packages, affecting the number of accounts that can access the plan's benefits. Here's a breakdown of the plans, including their offerings, pricing, and considerations.
This plan is perfect for solo Switch users primarily interested in online multiplayer. It offers full access to Nintendo's online services, including the NES, SNES, and Game Boy libraries. You'll also enjoy cloud saving, the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app, and exclusive deals and discounts. If you're not a daily player, the flexibility of monthly or three-month subscriptions can be more cost-effective than committing to a year-long plan upfront.
12-Month Individual Membership### Nintendo Switch Online Gift Card
$19.99 at Amazon### Nintendo Switch Online: Family - 1 year: $34.99
Designed for households, this plan extends the benefits of the Individual plan to up to eight accounts. It's a cost-effective solution for families, requiring a year-long commitment but offering significant savings over purchasing multiple individual subscriptions. You'll get access to online play, the NES, SNES, and Game Boy libraries, cloud saving, the mobile app, and exclusive offers.
For dedicated Nintendo enthusiasts, this plan adds value with access to N64, Game Boy Advance, and SEGA Genesis libraries, as well as major expansions for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2. While these expansions can be bought separately, the package offers a comprehensive experience for one account. This plan requires a year-long subscription, making it ideal for those who frequently play and appreciate the added classics and expansions.
This plan extends the benefits of the Individual Expansion Pack to up to eight accounts, making it perfect for households passionate about Nintendo gaming. It includes all the features of the standard NSO plan plus the additional libraries and expansions. The higher price reflects the extensive content, but it's worth considering if your family enjoys a broad range of Nintendo offerings.
The basic NSO plan is ideal for players who primarily use their Switch for online multiplayer and want access to classic games. It includes online play, the NES, SNES, and Game Boy libraries, cloud saving, and the mobile app. Offline play of these games is possible if you've logged in within the last seven days, offering flexibility for gamers on the go.
Similar to the Individual plan but designed for up to eight accounts, the Family plan is perfect for households where multiple people use different accounts. It requires a year-long commitment but offers significant savings over buying multiple individual subscriptions. You'll have access to online play, classic game libraries, cloud saving, and the mobile app.
This plan is tailored for avid Nintendo players who want to explore a wider range of classic games and expansions. It includes everything in the standard NSO plan, plus access to N64, Game Boy Advance, and SEGA Genesis libraries, and expansions for popular titles. It's a year-long commitment, ideal for those who regularly play and value the added content.
For families with multiple Nintendo fans, this plan extends the benefits of the Individual Expansion Pack to up to eight accounts. It includes all the features of the standard NSO plan and the additional libraries and expansions. The increased cost is justified by the extensive content, making it a great choice for households with varied gaming interests.
