Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom has treated fans to fresh gameplay footage of their upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play showcase, finally confirmed the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
The trailer showcased impressive sword combat and formidable enemies, offering a promising glimpse into the game's action-packed gameplay. While still over two years away, the visuals are striking.
Miyamoto Musashi, renowned for his unparalleled swordsmanship, takes center stage. The trailer highlights not only his exceptional skills but also a playful, mischievous side to his personality.
Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most iconic historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on Toshiro Mifune, the legendary Japanese actor who famously portrayed Musashi in several samurai films.
The game is set in a Kyoto overrun by Malic, an evil force summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
