Pokémon TCG Pocket Dev Gifts Players Trade Tokens But Still Doesn't Have Answers to Fix Controversial Feature

Pokémon TCG Pocket developer, Creatures Inc., has issued 1,000 Trade Tokens to players. This is enough for only two substantial trades, a temporary measure while they address the controversial trading mechanic.

Players will find these tokens in their Gift menu. Creatures Inc. acknowledged player feedback and apologized on X/Twitter. The trading feature, introduced last week, faced immediate criticism, with the developer being labeled as "hilariously toxic," "predatory," and "downright greedy."

The trading system, like other in-game mechanics, restricts players from frequently opening packs, Wonder Picking, or trading without spending real money. The Trade Tokens further limit trading, requiring players to delete five cards of the same rarity to trade one. This high cost sparked significant player backlash.

A week after the release, the negative response continues. Creatures Inc. had previously solicited feedback, leading many to believe the system would be more player-friendly. However, they later admitted that restrictions hindered casual enjoyment.

While promising to address complaints by offering necessary items as event rewards, the recent Cresselia ex Drop Event (February 3rd) failed to deliver on this promise.

Many believe the trading system is designed to increase revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly generated $200 million in its first month, before trading was implemented. This is further supported by the inability to trade 2-Star rarity cards or higher. This restriction encourages players to spend money on packs for a chance to obtain these rare cards, rather than trading for them. One player reported spending approximately $1,500 to complete the first set, with a third set released just last week.
