Pokémon Go Director on Scopely: No Need for Fan Concern

Apr 06,2025 Author: Victoria

Following the recent acquisition of Pokémon Go developer Niantic by Scopely, the creators of Monopoly Go, fans have expressed a range of concerns, from fears of increased advertising to worries about personal data privacy. However, a recent interview with Michael Steranka, a product director at Pokémon Go, published on Polygon, aims to alleviate these concerns.

In the interview, Steranka praised Scopely and highlighted the alignment of values between Niantic and the Monopoly Go developer. He confidently stated that Scopely would not introduce intrusive ads into Pokémon Go. This assurance is crucial for maintaining the game's user experience, which has been a significant factor in its success.

For players concerned about privacy, Steranka was clear: Niantic will not share or sell player data to third parties. He emphasized that the transition to working under Scopely would have minimal impact on Niantic's operations, if any.

Pokémon Go and Scopely Acquisition**If it ain't broke...** While it's natural to anticipate some corporate influence, I believe Scopely will not heavily intervene in Pokémon Go's operations. The game has been, and continues to be, highly successful. A more significant business move for Niantic might be the development of new AR applications through their spin-off team.

Steranka also pointed out the close involvement of The Pokémon Company in decision-making for Pokémon Go. This partnership ensures that any actions not aligned with The Pokémon Company's standards are unlikely to be implemented, now or in the future.
