Death Stranding 2 Unveiled at SXSW 2025
10-Minute Pre-Order Trailer Reveals New Characters and Gameplay
During a panel at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas on March 9, 2025, Kojima Productions and Sony announced the release date for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Director Hideo Kojima opened the event with a 10-minute trailer offering glimpses of new story elements and gameplay. The footage reinforces the game's focus on human connection in a fractured, post-apocalyptic setting.
Kojima was accompanied by PlayStation’s Global Content Communications Manager Kristen Zitani, alongside returning cast members Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, Troy Baker, and French music director and designer Woodkid. The trailer also featured a new faction leader named Neil, portrayed by Luca Marinelli, whose appearance—complete with a signature headband—immediately drew comparisons from fans to Solid Snake.
This observation was nothing new; back in July 2020, Kojima himself noted on Instagram that Marinelli wearing a bandana was the spitting image of the legendary Solid Snake. Neil and his faction are poised to play a significant role in the sequel's narrative.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach launches on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025. For ongoing coverage and the latest updates, keep reading our full guide below.
