Sony has recently unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which is set to introduce its debut game. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog by Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, teamLFG was formed at Bungie, the developer behind Destiny and Marathon, and is currently working on an ambitious incubation project.
The studio's name, teamLFG, is derived from the gaming term 'Looking For Group,' indicating a strong focus on social gaming elements. Their first game is described as a team-based action game, drawing inspiration from various genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." The game will be set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.

teamLFG aims to foster a sense of community and belonging among players. They envision a gaming experience where players log in to find their teammates already online, recognize familiar names, and create memorable moments that become the stuff of legends within the game's community. The studio emphasizes the importance of player interaction and the joy of mastering the game over countless hours.
The team plans to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, aiming to stay responsive to player feedback both before and after the game's launch, ensuring continuous growth and engagement.

teamLFG's game project emerged from Bungie amid significant layoffs last year. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs in November 2023 and another round in 2024, affecting a total of 320 employees. The incubation project was announced during this period, with some employees being integrated into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Amid these changes, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing through improvements for Destiny 2. Recently, Bungie has fully revealed the extraction shooter Marathon and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2, while confirming no plans for Destiny 3 and canceling a Destiny spinoff called Payback.
