Set to launch on September 26, Marvel’s Spider-Man marks the second fully draftable, Standard-legal set in Magic’s Universes Beyond line following Final Fantasy, and the third overall after 2023's Modern-legal Lord of the Rings set. While you won't find preconstructed Commander decks in this set, **the cards in the Scene Box shown above** ***won’t*** **be Standard-legal; they're designed specifically for Commander players.**
Last year, Magic ventured into the Marvel universe with a Secret Lair featuring Wolverine, Captain America, and more. Now, Spider-Man takes center stage as the first full set inspired by the comics. Wizards of the Coast Executive Producer Max McCall explained their decision to create a full set, saying, "Spider-Man needs a full set to do justice to the character and incorporate the many villains he’s faced over the years. Including characters from the Spider-Man canon in a smaller set would mean leaving too many out. We could probably fit Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales in a non-specific set, but there wouldn’t be room for Aunt May."
McCall also highlighted the unique approach to designing for a Universes Beyond set: “It flips the worldbuilding on its head. A typical Magic set must establish its location and setting while being fun to play. With Spider-Man, most people already know the character, so when we create a card that reflects great power and great responsibility, we can add mechanical complexity because the story is already familiar to fans. We don’t need to simplify Universes Beyond cards; we just need to pick recognizable moments that fans will easily understand.”

Head Designer Mark Rosewater shared insights on translating the Spider-Man universe into Magic's color pie, saying, "Magic’s color pie is robust enough to showcase heroism and villainy across all five colors. Spider-Man would be white, blue, and green. His obligation to use his powers for good fits the white color pie, while his scientific origin and aptitude for invention align with blue. Finally, his animal-based powers and connection to the Spider-Man universe resonate with the core of green."
"We're not limiting ourselves to any one \[comic\] run or series."
In addition to the Scene Box, the set will include Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles, and Prerelease Packs, all detailed in the gallery above. While preconstructed Commander decks are absent, the set will feature the return of Welcome Decks—introductory decks often distributed by game stores for free to help new players learn the game.
Beyond this year’s Final Fantasy set, Wizards of the Coast has also announced an upcoming set inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender. Before that, fans can look forward to two more in-universe sets: Tarkir: Dragontsorm and the space-themed Edge of Eternities.
