Square Enix has put any doubts to rest with a definitive update on social media about the much-anticipated Kingdom Hearts 4. In a clear message accompanied by captivating images, the developer has confirmed that the project is actively in development and progressing well.
This announcement comes on the heels of yesterday's news about the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG for mobile devices. Despite this setback, Square Enix took the opportunity to reassure fans that they remain "hard at work" on Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" declared the first of two posts, accompanied by a stunning collage of screenshots. These images not only introduce some of the characters fans can expect to encounter but also offer tantalizing glimpses of cinematic scenes, combat sequences, platforming challenges, and a formidable giant enemy.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post expressed. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first substantial news about the eagerly awaited sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Despite being unveiled with a full cinematic trailer in September 2022, Square Enix had remained largely silent on the project until now.
Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will, after 22 years and an impressive 18 games, finally shift the Kingdom Hearts narrative towards its conclusion.
Regarding the canceled action-RPG Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended their "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to it. The project was canceled as "it was determined that it would be difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
