Tekken 8 Season 2 Changes Spark Outrage, Pros Threaten Boycott, Steam Reviews Plummet

The Tekken 8 community has erupted in frustration following the Season 2 update, which introduced several controversial changes to the game. According to the patch notes, there was an across-the-board increase in character damage potential and offensive pressure. This shift has led some fans to argue that the game has deviated significantly from the classic Tekken experience they cherish.

PlayProfessional Tekken player JoKa expressed his dismay, stating that the Season 2 update means “this does not feel like Tekken AT ALL.” He elaborated on his concerns, pointing out issues like the buffing of characters, enhanced 50/50 situations, and new moves with little counterplay. JoKa criticized the homogenization of character identities, the lack of defensive options, and the excessive combo damage across the roster. He questioned the removal of strategic depth in favor of more unpredictable situations, which he feels strays from Tekken's foundational gameplay.

T8 now hit the most negative reviews in a day since the day the Tekken Shop launched one year ago

.reddit-embed-wrapper iframe { margin-left: 0 !important; }As expected, the backlash has been reflected on Tekken 8’s Steam page, where players have voiced their frustrations through a surge of negative reviews, totaling over 1,100 in the last two days. This has led to the game receiving a 'mostly negative' rating for recent reviews. One particularly poignant review labeled the game as “Genuinely good game held back by schizophrenic insane developers sent from hell.” Other reviews lamented the shift towards making characters easier to play with powerful offensive moves, diminishing defensive strategies and player agency.

The community's disappointment is palpable, with some players contemplating switching to Capcom’s Street Fighter 6. The Season 2 update has been dubbed by some as the “worst patch in Tekken history,” prompting threats from professional players to abandon Tekken 8 altogether.

I don't know if I'll continue playing Tekken if this patch stays.
I'm sorry for doomposting, but I thought it had a chance to be a better game.
I'm just really sad.
Like depressed.
I streamed 70 hours of Tekken this past week to prep for s2 just to have those hopes shattered.

In response to the widespread discontent, the community is eagerly awaiting communication from the development team. Many are calling for the patch to be rolled back entirely, while others are hopeful for an emergency follow-up patch to address the key issues raised by the players.
