Caldarus, the intriguing dragon character in *Fields of Mistria*, can now be unlocked as a romanceable character with the game's Early Access update in March 2025. This guide will walk you through how to unlock his romance questline, details on events, and his gift preferences.

To begin your romantic journey with Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*, you must break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a dramatic cutscene unfolds where the Mines Priestess warns the farmer to leave or risk being sealed. As your health depletes, Caldarus heroically appears, transforming into his human form and granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods.
Once transformed, you can interact with Caldarus by giving him gifts and engaging in daily conversations, similar to other dateable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be found at his temple in the Deep Woods, accessible only by using the Dragon’s Breath spell to unlock the area permanently on your map.

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with a heart level of six, which is the current cap. Unfortunately, there are no heart events for Caldarus at this time, but future updates are expected to add more. Currently, the game features a few cutscenes involving the dragon. The first, a dream sequence at the game's start, introduces Mistria's magic system and mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves the farmer and reveals his human form before retreating to recover.
Following the update, you can trigger a date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in *Fields of Mistria*, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts with six hearts, you can automatically attend with him. To do so, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up after to start the event. During your date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and shares insights on the stars and the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your conversation delves into existential topics, with Caldarus hinting at past lives and the nature of connections. As the night progresses, he invites you to continue watching the stars from his temple.
