Which Difficulty Setting Should You Choose in Dynasty Warriors Origins?

Apr 04,2025 Author: Dylan

Dynasty Warriors games, known for their hack-and-slash combat, still demand a certain level of skill from players. Recognizing this, Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers four different difficulty settings, allowing players to customize the challenge according to their skill level and experience. As a reboot, the game aims to cater to both new and returning players, who might be unsure about the best difficulty setting to choose. The ideal setting varies based on the player's skill and the desired level of challenge.

All Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Settings

Dynasty Warriors: Origins features four difficulty settings, though only three are initially available. At the start, players can choose from Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) difficulty becomes accessible after completing one of the three factions' main scenarios.

While there's a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no difficulty-specific Trophies/Achievements for finishing the main campaign.

Which Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Setting is Best?

Historian is the easy mode, ideal for newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those focused on the story. Wayfarer is recommended for most players, including those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Fans of the series might prefer starting with Hero, while seasoned Musou players should consider switching to Ultimate Warrior after unlocking it for an ongoing challenge as they complete remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.

Players can adjust the difficulty between battles through the config menu if they find the gameplay too hard or too easy, without affecting the story.

Difficulty Mode Differences in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

In Historian mode, all enemy attacks are blockable, and it's easier to stagger enemies, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. Hero mode increases enemy strength and aggression, shortens parry and perfect evade windows, and removes Meat Buns from enemy drops. Blocking depletes bravery, there's less time to influence battles between allied and enemy armies, and Skill Points and gold earnings are slightly reduced. Ultimate Warrior mode amplifies these changes with even tighter parry and evade windows and significantly decreased battle earnings.
