Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in Dynasty Warriors, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.

Initial Strategy:

Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right. After securing two, a cutscene will trigger, introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base conquest; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with a twin pike weapon. Once all bases are under your control, assault Hulao Gate.

Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:

The initial assault is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic. This weakens enemy defenses, paving the way for your advance.

Lu Bu's Arrival:

Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, eliminate surrounding officers to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly depletes. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily hold him off. This buys you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. However, Liu Bei's defense is not indefinite; once they retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo to prevent mission failure.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases to prepare for the final assault. Once ready, charge towards Dong Zhuo.

Dong Zhuo will unleash two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage (if available) to break through the enemy lines and eliminate the soldiers and officers guarding the catapults. Your forces will then destroy the catapults, ending the Grand Tactic.

The second Grand Tactic necessitates defeating an officer. Proceed to the right-side stairs, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, now fighting for Dong Zhuo. A duel with Diaochan is advisable to avoid being overwhelmed.

Once the second Grand Tactic is countered, Dong Zhuo will be vulnerable. Your forces should easily defeat his remaining troops. Focus on Dong Zhuo himself; a direct duel isn't necessary at this point.

With Dong Zhuo defeated, you've conquered the Battle of Hulao Gate.
