Nintendo Comments on Latest Switch 2 Leak

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the circulating images are not official, a simple but noteworthy response given Nintendo's typically tight-lipped approach to leaks. This statement follows the display of a purported Switch 2 replica by accessory maker Genki at the Las Vegas event.

The reason for the official denial is straightforward: Nintendo isn't participating in CES 2025. Therefore, any Switch 2 imagery shown at the show cannot be considered official promotional material. This clarification, provided to the Sankei Shimbun, marks a rare instance of Nintendo directly addressing product leaks.

The Wave of Switch 2 Leaks

Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Genki's replica, showcased at CES, quickly spread across social media, fueling further speculation.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo's statement dismisses the images as unofficial, the replica itself may be surprisingly accurate. It aligns with previous leaks and rumors, suggesting a design consistent with expectations. The most notable difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains a mystery, even to Genki CEO Eddie Tsai.

Tsai did offer other insights, claiming the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails, and that they may function as mouse controllers—a possibility previously suggested by other sources.

The Road Ahead for the Switch 2

Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. However, a retail launch isn't anticipated before the second quarter of 2025, and the rumored price point is around $399.
